2026 All-Star Tryout Material
We are so excited to kick off the 2026-2027 Season! See below for the material your athlete will perform at tryouts! But first . . .
Understand Your Tryout Format
Each athlete’s evaluation is based on the program, level, and division they are pursuing. Based on the Skills Checklists, decide which is the set of skills your athlete can execute most confidently and cleanly. Once that is decided, work on the corresponding material to perform at tryouts!
Tryout Material At-A-Glance
Regionals Novice - Skills Evaluation Only
Athletes will:
Bring a completed Skills Checklist to tryouts.
At the direction of the evaluating coach, perform skills selected from their Skills Checklist.
Retry any skills they would like to demonstrate again.
Perform any additional skills requested by coaches or any additional skills athletes want to demonstrate. (For example, if an athlete’s skills checklist does not include a back handspring, but the athlete would like to demonstrate that skill, the athlete will have a chance to do that in the evaluation!)
Not have to perform any choreographed material such as the skills or dance mini routines. (Note: Athletes trying out for Novice Level 3 have the option to perform the Regionals Novice Level 3 Mini-Routine at tryouts or may simply perform skills selected from the Level 3 Skills Checklist instead.)
Regionals Prep • Nationals Prep • Nationals Elite - Mini Routines Required
Athletes will:
Bring a completed Skills Checklist to tryouts.
Perform the Skills Mini Routine (based on intended level and division).
Perform the Dance Mini Routine (same dance for all levels/divisions).
Same Level Tryouts (Current Athletes) - Skills Evaluation Only
For current Mustang athletes wishing to remain at the same level and division next season, athletes may choose to complete a Skills Evaluation only from the same level and division as their current team. In this case, athletes will follow the Regionals Novice format above, with no mini routines required. If athletes are hoping to level up either in level/division/or program (e.g., Level 1 - 2, Prep to Elite, and/or Regionals to Nationals)
Example#1: If a current Nationals Elite Level 2 athlete plans to try out for Nationals Elite Level 2 again, the athlete may complete a Skills Evaluation only from the Nationals Level 2 Elite Skills Checklist, instead of performing the mini routines because the athlete hopes to stay in the same level/division/program.
Example #2: If a current Nationals Prep Level 3.2 athlete plans to try out for Nationals Elite Level 3, the athlete would perform the appropriate level’s mini-routine because the athlete would hope to be changing divisions (prep to elite) and levels (3.2 to 3).
